Postmortem



For this shmup game project, I designed my assets to be in the theme of science fiction. I am pretty satisfied with the assets, but there are still some minor improvements that could be made. The bricks and walls match perfectly with the shader as it gives the player a sense of the future, I am pleased with the results. The spaceship is well made but I wish the materials and maps would better transfer the details of those hard edges. The bots did not satisfy my expectations as it did not create an immersive visual experience. I've spend a lot of time developing and learning about CG (Computer generated), and I am happy to see my improvements throughout these projects. 

In highlighting my passion for CG, I should also be aware that a game is not successful without interesting game plays. I spent 1/4 of my time designing and developing the game plays, which result in a banal, linear pattern. In future projects, I should design my game plays and mechanics before rushing into creating assets. Although I weigh assets creation over game plays, but I do understand that assets are empty without the connection of good game plays. 

Highlights: 

Although the bots did not satisfy my visual expectations, I am still thrilled with the motions that I created for them. I've applied the math principle sohcahtoa to manipulate their localRotations; transform...etc.

Playtesting:

Playtesting did not help a lot because game plays are designed in the later stage of this project, playtesters are mainly giving feedback on my player controls, and environment. 

Controller:

If I were given more time, I would map the controls to a joystick controller.

Creation Time-frame:

 3 Weeks

(FYI: I use Windows, macs are for playtesting)
